H2GO Strategy
Mission
Participants in the H2GO Program share the conviction that hydrogen will play an important role in the energy transition. Both in energy management and in making our raw materials more sustainable and therefore also in our economy. In this special collaboration between the market, government and knowledge institutions, parties are making every effort to accelerate the national roll-out of the hydrogen economy.
Vision
The H2GO Covenant aims to ensure that Goeree-Overflakkee achieves the full CO2 reduction of its energy supply with a combination of electricity and hydrogen. This combination is increasingly mentioned as a workable solution, but has not yet been put into practice anywhere. Goeree-Overflakkee is a demonstration garden for this combination as ”Energy Island”. A clearly defined area where we can learn whether switching to hydrogen and electricity is actually realistic financially, materially and in terms of support.
Strategy
A hydrogen economy at Goeree-Overflakkee requires the development of green production, good distribution and storage, and sufficient demand for hydrogen. Without demand there is no supply, but without supply there is no demand. Therefore, a cohesive, consistent framework is needed to properly implement the H2GO Program on the island.
It is of strategic importance to achieve visible results in the short term. In addition to the hydrogen filling station that will be delivered quickly, the construction of a hydrogen transport pipeline with the Port Industrial Complex of Rotterdam can play an important role in this. When there is certainty about the hydrogen supply and back-up options for Goeree-Overflakkee, subsequent steps will be easier. The realization of the key projects below provides new information for future strategy formulation and resident participation. And when these projects are operational, hydrogen demand can be expanded further. Also towards shipping and ammonia production.
Key projects of the H2GO Program at Goeree-Overflakkee:
- Production, Transport and Storage
- Energy Park Oude-Tonge
- Mobility
- Heating built environment: Stad aan ‘t Haringvliet
Phasing
The H2GO Program is divided into two phases. In phase 1, the current processes around the key projects are concretely realized. Phase 2 focuses on the development of a comprehensive hydrogen infrastructure for the entire island.
